Common problems with Mobil 1 Rally Championship

Q. The game doesn't work/install/run or crashes -

A. Download patch 5.29, unzip it and run it. Available here or on the Ubisoft site here

Q. I dont have any instructions

A. They are available online here. You can just print out the web page for a hard copy.

Q. The cars go backwards when I start

A. You are trying to drive without putting the car in gear, and the car is rolling backwards. You need to either select automatic gears in which case accelerating will put the car in gear, or find out the correct key/button to put the car in gear. Look at the instruction manual, available online here

Q. How do I use my joystick/wheel

A. Look at the instruction manual available online here. You need to go to options, then player options, then controller options. You may also need to calibrate your controller

Q. The game wont work now I have Windows XP

A. The game was written three years ago before Windows XP, and we currently have no resources to fine tune a patch for Windows XP, but it is possible to get it working quite easily, infact most preople have no problems at all. First of all, make sure you have the patch installed, then follow these instructions.

Firstly you will need to download and install the Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit from Microsoft's website, this is a 6.62Mb download.

Save the file somewhere safe it is named "act26". Run this application it will install various components and give you a shortcut in your programs group to the "Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit" strangely there is no shortcut to the program we need to use. You will have to search your HDD for the program "QFixApp.exe" and run it, then follow the instructions to use the QFixApp tool to apply this fix.

1) Select "Ral.exe" as the file you wish to apply this fix for.

2) Under the "Fixes" tab select the "Clear" button.

3) Select "LowerThreadPriority" and then the "Run" button. If you aren't running the NoCD version, make sure you have the Rally CD in the drive. The game should run correctly.

4) Exit the game and select "Advanced" button.

5) Select "Create Fix Support" button and this will add a registry entry so that this fix is used every time the game is run. It will also add an item to the "Add/Remove software" list in the control panel.

Thanks to: Tom's Rally 2000 site, Peracer, Dave King, Mr Overshoot, srosadiuk, for this information.
